Hey! Would love to help with this.

And isn't it weird? Even with data to ground ourselves, it's tough not to slip into our previous versions of ourselves when comparing this period to a previous one.

I'd love to dig deeper into this, especially as we look at ways toward a more (gestures wildly) just and joyful future.

I'm so glad someone wrote this. I would have used the year 1999.

The answer is flat out NO. We are not better off today in almost every area than in 1995(1999).

Graduated college in 1996. been through numerous lay offs through the decades. THIS is by far the worst job market I have ever seen.

When I graduated my starting salary was enough for rent, new car, paying my student loan, 401k, going out on the weekends and I still had money left over. This was the NORM for many if not all college graduates in the mid 90s. Late 90s, minus the dotcom bust, all other industries were fine.

Today everything, and I mean everything is expensive.

Out of curiosity, why 1999 instead of 1995 (which I chose to make it a clean 30 years)?

A friendly challenge to your point on the job market: today’s unemployment rate is at its lowest since the late 90s and real wages have gone up. Of course, those gains are concentrated in some cities and sectors, but overall the labor market seems to be doing pretty well, right?

Wow, teen David didn’t smile showing teeth as well, what to make of this, hmmmm? From my own experience, I’m better off financially and professionally, but I also remember that I was equally happy making less money, working more hours and harder, traveling less and being less boujee bc my definition of happy was different than it is today. I remember getting to school by 7:30 am and not getting home until 7 pm but I was happy with what I was doing. I would like to be that person again. There are less people happy doing their work and this is prevalent when you enter shops and stores, service is so bad now bc nobody wants to be doing what they are doing and then they want you to tip them for it. When I go to smaller towns, I do experience better service and what I think are people trying to do well at their jobs. All observations. Also, i think you should put over exercising on your list with porn, screens, etc… just sayin’

Back then I was angry and getting in trouble. Now I’m just equanimous. :)

Yeah, I agree. It’s hard to distinguish how society has changed vs. how we have changed from 1995 to 2025. Since, I’m much happier now, I might be overly optimistic about those changes. Then again, I have my concerns.

Tell me more about exercise. As a potentially addictive activity that can cause harm?
