I love Richard Reeves' work. Take it from a long-time nonprofit consultant: We are as effective as our standards are high. If you choose your clients and jobs carefully, you can have as meaningful an impact as an employee. Welcome t;o the club.

Look at it from the perspective of the hundreds of people hired by USAID operators here in Colombia (and the rest of the world) who were suddenly told goodbye. And the organizations that depend largely on that funding. As previously mentioned, it is a good time to be a consultant and help, because there are many people on the verge of despair.

Please send Cati a hug for me with apologies on behalf of my very chaotic government 🙈

Between MacKensie Scott and USAID, there will be lots of work to help orgs figure out how to balloon and shrink. What a gift to have time to ponder and play!

Yeah, my former colleague Gabrielle Fitzgerald has done some good analysis of the effects of Scott's giving: "Her gifts are super generous, but unfortunately, they don’t provide long term sustainability."

That’s exactly what I’ve heard anecdotally…

Oh boy, what a cliffhanger. I'm excited to hear what's next!

Wow, we should all feel as secure in our jobs as that border agent behaving the way he did. Or maybe that's not a good thing. This is where you are a better person than me. You heard his comments and went introspective and I heard his comments and thought what an A-hole. I don't know, reading your new title as non-profit consultant made me excited for you, after all, if you don't do it, someone else will...and they won't be as good. Just sayin'.

Haha, I can totally imagine your comments to this guy.

I am impressed by your commitment to your ideals, and with I could live them as you are. I especially am excited to hear more about what you do at AIBM. That's the sort of non-profit I would support.

Be bold and take risks. Even if you become a nonprofit consultant!

I've never heard most of the people on your playlist. I'm still listening to one you made like 20 years ago.

Geese (Cameron Winter is the lead singer) has been my favorite artist since they released 3D Country two years ago. I just can't "get" Heavy Metal though. A lot of people who have taste I respect consider it groundbreaking. Interesting how taste works.

Your story of the border agent reminded me of the border agent in "No Country for Old Men" for some reason, which I rewatched last week. Something about the potential exercise of somewhat-arbitrary power, maybe.
